Andhadhi
Karpaga Andhadhi is a Tamil devotional album composed, arranged, produced and performed by S. J. Jananiy, with profound lyrics by Dr. Rukmini Ramani. Rooted in Indian classical tradition, the album unfolds as an immersive journey through melody, chant, devotion and rich acoustic instrumentation.
Karpaga Andhadhi is a large-scale, continuous musical work that reflects the compositional vision, musical depth and endurance of S. J. Jananiy.
Built around 28 lyrical phrases written by Dr Rukmini Ramani, Jananiy transformed the work into a single, uninterrupted musical journey running for approximately 41 minutes and 58 seconds.
The main point is that, while respecting this intricate structure and without changing a single word, Jananiy composed the complete work.
The term Andhadhi refers to a poetic form in which the end of one verse becomes the beginning of the subsequent verse.
Rooted in Carnatic and Indian classical music, the work unfolds through a carefully constructed sequence of ragas, with seamless transitions that preserve the continuity of the poetry, melody and spiritual journey. Jananiy balances classical complexity with a semi-classical and devotional sensibility, making the work both musically rich and accessible to listeners.
As Composer, Music Producer, Arranger and Singer, Jananiy shaped the complete musical architecture of the project, including the melodies, raga structure, keys, pads, synthesiser textures, rhythmic elements and overall continuity. The production was further enriched with live instrumentation, including Kanjira, Mridangam, Tabla and Nadaswaram, carefully planned, performed, recorded and integrated into the final production.
From composition and raga architecture to vocal performance, arrangement, live instrumentation, recording, production and final mix, Karpaga Andhadhi represents a project of Himalayan scale and Herculean artistic and technical demands.
More than a devotional album, it transforms 28 lyrical phrases into one continuous musical offering—where poetry, devotion, raga, rhythm, voice, live instrumentation and contemporary production come together as a single immersive experience.
During the album release, Jananiy performed it live on stage continuously for the entire duration—without drinking a single drop of water.
The production showcases Jananiy’s exceptional musical vision through rich orchestration featuring Violin, Veena, Nadaswaram, Flute, Tavil, Mridangam, and Kanjira, all blended with her signature keyboard/synth-layer arrangements that create a distinctive sonic experience.
The seamless musical flow across the full hymn, combined with masterful arrangements and immersive production, elevates Karpaga Andhadhi into a deeply spiritual and captivating listening journey.
